LINER

A compacted vermicular graphite CI incorporate a type of graphite which falls between lamellar and spheroidal.

   It had good mech prop close to that of spheroidal graphite CI; Good thermal stability and anti wear prop as that of lamellar graphite CI; good castability.

MAN B&W uses Tarkalloy C grey CI which is a lamellar graphitic CI with small proportions of Boron and Phosphorus.

PISTON CROWN

Heat resistant chrome molybdenum steel for crown with chrome plated grooves

PISTON SKIRT

Nodular CI bronze sliding bands for large bite engines.

PISTON RINGS

Pearlitic Grey CI with chrome plating or plasma coating (very hard material Cr/Mo fused to rubbing surface).

CPR ring is vermicular grey CI.

Both have cermet coating(is a ceramic metal 50% chrome carbides in a matrix of Ni-Cr with some molybdenum) and Alu-bronze coating on the running surface and bottom is chrome coated.

Valve is made up of Austentic alloy steel and have a sintered layer of Inconel or Nimonic on the underside of the valve. It's spindle is molybdenum chrome alloy steel.

Alternatively, whole valve and spindle is forged nimonic

Chrome plated stem had wear problems.. so HVOF based cermet coating s being used.

CRANKSHAFT

Forged 0.4% carbon steel(500-550MN/sq.mtr) with Nitralloy cr-1.5%, al- 1%, mo-0.2%.

Fillets(5% of journal dia) are cold rolled/strain hardened at 220BHN and running surface flame/induction hardened to abt 480BHN.

BOILER

Drum 0.28% low Carbon steel, 0.5% mn, 0.1% silicon

Tube plain carbon steel.

Gauge glass special toughened glass containing silicon oxide or manganese oxide

BOILER TUBE - low carbon alloy steel containing cr,Ni,mo.   Or solid drawn mild steel

Mild steel plug.

SAFETY VALVE seat,vv,spindle,bushes n compression screws must be stainless steel or monel metal. VALVE CHEST is cast steel.


GENERATOR

CON ROD forged steel i.e plain carbon steel

Nickel steel with 3% Ni


MAIN AIR COMPRESSOR

Valve seat 0.4% carbon steel

Spring hardened steel

Valve  nickel steel, stainless steel, chrome vanadium steel.

Bursting disc copper alloy or Phosphor bronze.
